GARDEN BLOGGER BLOOMS DAY JULY 2007

Here I am joining the party at May Dreams Garden a bit late. There seem to be ever more flowers to check out in gardens from around the world this mid-summer month. Here is a Chicago Illinois zone 5 perspective. I'll be mingling.

Tiger lily
Berries still green but soon to ripen to a deep blue on the Virginia creeper

A white phlox 'David'

Fragrant species tall phlox

This is a clump of purple coneflower(echinacea purpurea) in a bit more shade. Still blooms well but does not reseed as much as the ones in full sun.

A short liatris cultivar.
A tall species liatris.

Daylily 1

Daylily 2

Daylily 3

Butterfly weed (asclepias tuberosa)

An annual coreopsis grown from seed has been flowering in many variations from full red to almost all yellow and all mixes in between. I expect blooms all summer and will start to collect a lot of seed soon.

  2. Hi Gloria,

We have a lot of plants in common this bloom day - maybe we both like yellow, orange and purples, too?
(But my white phlox is not blooming, darn it.)

    The butterflies must love you.

  3. Carol, I hope you saw that I finally added the names of the plants.I kept getting called away from the computer so just posted the pictures at first.

Annie, there are so many butterflies this year.Everywhere we look all day long it is great. We find kids chasing them across the open front yard.
So many eggs on the leaves of the asters that I am bound to finally see caterpillars there.Pearl Cresent is said to lay eggs on aster.

  4. Good to hear that there are lots of butterflies. I'm seeing plenty here too, though I don't know many of them by name--about eight or ten is all, and only common names. Lovely blooms, Gloria--I'm amazed that phlox is in bloom--not for at least 3 weeks longer here. The coneflowers are starting though, and the daylilies too.
